After graduating from university, Chung took a job as a correspondent for CBS Evening News in Washington. She later moved to KNXT (now KCBS-TV) in Los Angeles and worked as a nighttime news anchor and then for CBS Newsbreak from KNXT Studios in Columbia Square.
In 1983, Connie Chung joined NBC, where she anchored the network’s programs. NBC News at Sunrise and NBC Nightly News . She was also a co-host of NBC’s newsmagazines, American Almanac and 1986. After working at NBC for about six years, she joined CBS to host Saturday Night with Connie Chung alongside anchoring CBS Sunday Evening News . Connie’s stint at CBS was also a six-year marathon. In 1995, she left the network to focus on conducting independent interviews with Eye to Eye with Connie Chung .Eye level brought her much fame in a series of controversies and criticisms of her interviewing style. Some of the major controversies arose from her interview with Kathleen Gingrich, Oklahoma City Fire Department spokeswoman Martina Navratilova, which eventually led to her demotion and subsequent dismissal from CBS. There was a massive public outcry over a question she asked the firefighter after the Oklahoma City bombings that many considered “inappropriate” and “insensitive.”
Connie joined ABC News in 1997 and worked as a reporter and then co-anchor on the network’s Monday 20/20 program from 1998 to 2000. In 2002 she began hosting her own show, Connie Chung Tonight on CNN. The program lasted barely a year and ended in 2003 after the start of the Iraq war.
In 2006, Connie Chung, along with her husband Maury Povich, began hosting Weekends With Maury and Connie on MSNBC. The show didn’t last long, however, as it was canceled after six months due to low ratings. In the same year she retired from her television career.
In addition to broadcast, Connie has appeared in a number of films/TV series including Moscow on the Hudson (1984), Murphy Brown (1989) and Off the Boat (2015). She was also one of the judges at the 2011 Miss Universe pageant.

Connie Chung met Maury Povich, a fellow journalist, in 1968. At the time, she was a secretary at WTTG-TV in Washington, where she was also a news anchor at the time.
