Altoona Amazon warehouse not a traffic concern

With the new Amazon warehouse in Altoona set to be making deliveries soon, people in the area are welcoming new jobs.

“I think it's great that amazon is coming here. The more jobs the better and it's probably one of the better companies to work for. We need it here. We just hope it really takes off,” Blair County resident Dan Daniels said. “We've been watching its progress here. It's quite the operation and I just think it's one of the best things coming around here and I just hope it all works out.”

Amazon officials say the employees are not fully working yet but Thursday was the first day they reported to the warehouse.

Amazon says they are still looking to hire for the Altoona location. Company officials were at a veteran hiring event in the Altoona Public Library Thursday afternoon.

Some residents near the facility say they are concerned with increased traffic, but a PennDOT official told me it is not a major concern.

In a statement, a PennDOT executive says since amazon is moving into an existing building and are not planning to make changes to the structure, they say they do not anticipate an impact.

Representatives of the company did say the plan is still for all workers at the warehouse to start part-time.
